A Life Outside Caring

Carers should be able to have a life of their own alongside their caring responsibilities. A break from the caring role can support and sustain your caring relationship.

No carer can be expected to care round the clock, 365 days a year.  Reasonable breaks from their caring role help carers maintain their capacity to care, and have a life beyond that caring role.   Some people find that a complete break from the caring role - anything from a couple of hours to a couple of weeks - recharges their batteries, while others get most benefit from spending time with the person they care for in a setting where they are not just carer and cared for.
