Temporary changes to Building Control services

In light of the Government's announcement on 23 March, we are limiting inspections for all but essential or emergency matters with immediate effect, until further notice.

We take our responsibility to protect our colleagues and customers seriously. As such this means that Building Control team members will only be attending site to carry out certain types of inspections. The Civic Centre is closed to all but essential staff.

We are mindful however, that some essential inspections will be required along with attending to Dangerous structures. These will be dealt with in association with our partners in emergency services and with measures that include social distancing.

At present please contact us to establish if we need to visit. This can be done via this email address: bcon@swansea.gov.uk alternatively, using the usual officer contact phone numbers you have, or are available via our web pages.

We will make every endeavour to return your call and will advise regarding work and methods of showing how you are progressing and complying with Building Regulations. We must ensure that we do this in a safe and compliant manner to prevent unnecessary spread of infection.

At present we will assess the nature of your request for a visit and where safe to do so, carry out inspections outdoors. We are currently not entering occupied private premises, except for critical or for emergency purposes.

All enquiries for information should be sent to bcon@swansea.gov.uk

These are unprecedented events and we anticipate that many of our customers will contact us at this time, so we ask that you please bear with us.

Whilst we appreciate that you may have some difficulty with some of the measures we have had to put in place, the safety and welfare of all UK citizens must take priority.

Thank you for your understanding.
