Today's latest information

The council has already taken steps to safeguard our core services and to protect the vulnerable.

This work will continue as this health emergency develops over the coming weeks and months.

This is a fast-moving situation which means the information and advice is being frequently updated. Please continue to use the council's website to find the latest information and advice.

The Civic Centre is closed to the public and open to staff only. The Guildhall is open to staff only.

Below is today's latest information:

Education

Following yesterday's announcement by the UK/Welsh Government we would like to clarify to all school staff the unique situation and demands that are facing us. From Monday schools are going to be re-purposed to provide support for the children of key workers (list to be provided by Welsh Government), to focus on our most vulnerable learners and to provide an emergency provision to support children who are entitled to free school meals or who have safeguarding issues. In short, schools sites are closing to pupils however Education and learning will continue, albeit not through the normal channels.

We are asking all staff in schools and from across the Council to be prepared to work from our school settings for the foreseeable future to ensure that the above groups are catered for. Not all schools will provide this service and staff may be requested to work from other sites.

These are unique times and we are confident that all staff, who are fit and healthy and do not have other caring commitments will make themselves available at this time.

As further clarity and details emerge we will communicate with you all via your head teachers and line managers.

All Lifelong Learning Service classes have been cancelled until further notice. This includes Family Learning, Essential Skills, Adult Community Learning and IT classes. If you have any queries please email lifelong.learning@swansea.gov.uk or phone 01792 637101 Adult education - Lifelong learning
