Changes to registration services due to Coronavirus

All death and stillbirth registrations will now be completed by telephone rather than face to face appointments. All other registrations and appointments are deferred to a later date.

Registering a death or stillbirth

All death and stillbirth registrations will now be completed by telephone rather than face to face appointments. The hospital or doctor's surgery will be able to email the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death to the Register Office directly with contact details for the family. If there has been a post mortem or inquest the Coroner's Office will email paperwork to us directly. When we have received this we will call the family member or person who is responsible for registering the death to complete the registration.

Please ensure that the surgery or hospital administrators have the most appropriate contact details so that we can easily get in touch. The registrar will explain the forms and certificates that will be issued when she calls.

Registering a birth

We are now able to arrange appointments to register births. As we have a significant number of registrations to deal with, you will need to provide us with some of your details along with contact information. We will then get in touch with you to arrange an appointment as soon as we can. Please do not telephone the office for an appointment. We thank you for your patience whilst we work through the backlog.

Notices of marriage/civil partnerships and ceremonies

We are now able to arrange appointments for notices of marriage and civil partnership. Please note that we are only dealing with urgent appointments at the moment. Priority is being given to those who have ceremonies coming up and need to give notice as a matter of urgency in order to meet the 28 day waiting period criteria. Please email us at to arrange an appointment.

You must include the date and venue of your ceremony in the subject line or we will not be able to deal with your query. We will either email or call you back and we will deal with emails in the order that they are received.

We are able to conduct ceremonies in our statutory Register Office and in the Swansea Bay Ceremony Rooms. Please note that priority is given to those who's ceremonies were postponed due to the lockdown. We are currently unable to take new bookings. Please note that there are restrictions and guidelines in place with regard to the number of guests allowed, ceremony content and format etc. For more information or to rearrange a ceremony that was previously postponed please email us at

With regard to ceremonies at approved venues, we are awaiting further instructions and guidelines from the Welsh Government as lockdown measures are eased before ceremonies can go ahead.

Copy certificates

If you wish to obtain a copy certificate, facilities are available online and the certificate can be posted to you. Certificates cannot be collected from the office. Unless a certificate is urgently required please avoid ordering.

Citizenship Ceremony

The ceremony scheduled for July has been cancelled. We are awaiting further updates from the Home Office regarding Citizenship Ceremonies. The Home Office have confirmed that no adverse decisions will be made because of delays caused by coronavirus. As soon as we have further information and guidance we will update the website and contact those who were previously booked in for a ceremony.

Please note that the Register Office is not open for walk-in queries or certificate applications.

Thank you for your co-operation.
