Welsh Government Valleys Taskforce Empty Property Grant

The Welsh Government, through the Valleys Taskforce Area programme, have introduced an Empty Property Grant to assist owners bringing empty properties back into use.

The scheme is available for owner occupiers of properties that have been empty for more than 6 months. You must plan to live in the property for at least 5 years.

The grant will fund works to make the property warm, safe, secure and free from Category 1 hazards defined within the Housing Health and Safety Rating system. 

There is grant available for up to £25,000, with up to £20,000 of the grant for essential repair works and a further £5,000 available for energy efficiency measures. The minimum cost of grant eligible work is £1,000.

Applicants will be expected to contribute 15% of the costs of grant eligible works up to a maximum of £3,000.  Any costs above the maximum of £25,000 will be paid by the applicant.

The cost of grant eligible works may include ancillary fees.

Applicants will be required to carry out the works using their own appointed builder.

Grant conditions will need to registered with a full legal charge on completion of the works for a 5 year period.

The scheme is limited to empty properties located within the Valleys Taskforce boundary area. Areas of Swansea within this boundary include Glais, Clydach, CraigCefn Parc, Felindre and Pontardulais.

The scheme is being administered by Rhondda Cynon Taff Council on behalf of Welsh Government.
