They said pupils make consistently good progress as they move through school and enjoy very high levels of wellbeing during their time there.

A team from Estyn visited the school in November and their findings have just been published.

The report states: "Pupils make particularly strong progress in developing their literacy, numeracy, Welsh language and information and communication technology (ICT) skills and regularly apply these skills in combination during topic work.

"Staff work very well in teams to provide pupils with highly engaging learning experiences that meet their needs and interests.

"They provide pupils with good opportunities to influence how and what they learn and enable pupils to have a wider say in issues at school that affect them.

"The school's provision to develop pupils as informed citizens of Wales and the World is a particular strength."

Performance in all five inspection areas was judged to be excellent.

Inspectors said Headteacher Jayne Woolcock provides outstanding strategic leadership to the school's work.

Staff in leadership positions at the school are highly effective in their roles and a climate has been created where both pupils and staff thrive.

Governors contribute positively to school life and there is a strong culture of continuous improvement and implementing national goals.

This is the third time the school has been inspected since Mrs Woolcock has been in post and each time the outcomes have been consistently high.

She said: "I am privileged  to have a highly skilled team of committed staff who know our pupils well and who go above and beyond to ensure learners receive the best care and education possible.

"I am very pleased that the report highlights that pupils make excellent progress at Penllergaer Primary in a safe, caring and happy environment.

"I would like to thank all our talented staff for their hard work and of course our pupils, their parents and the wider community for their on-going support."

Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Education Improvement, Learning and Skills, Jennifer Raynor, said: "To be judged as excellent in all inspection areas speaks for itself.

"Everyone associated with Penllergaer Primary should be very proud indeed."
