Christmas household recycling collections in Swansea

Residents are reminded that Household waste collections in Swansea will be later than normal over Christmas and new year's week.

The changes will include households whose collections would normally take place on Wednesday 25 December and will be collected three days later than normal through to Friday 27 December.

Waste collections for households on Monday 30 December will be picked up on Tuesday 31 December. Collections for households from Tuesday 31 until Friday 3 January will be collected two days later.

Mark Thomas, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure Management, said: "This is a busy time for our collection crews who will be collecting increased amounts of recycling from homes across Swansea.

"It's important that residents pay attention to the changes in collections so they can dispose of all their household waste and we do not have excessive amounts of recycling left out on streets for longer than they normally would."

During the two weeks that include Christmas and the New Year residents can dispose of a wide range of household items including Christmas cards (glitter free and non-electric), real Christmas trees, leftover turkey carcasses and all the glass and cans emptied during Christmas celebrations.

Cllr Thomas added: "We hope residents will use the kerbside recycling services to recycle as much as they can. As usual, Christmas wrapping paper is one of the only materials we do not recycle because much of it contains non-paper elements which cannot be reprocessed - this will need to be placed in your black bags."

Recycling sites will be open as normal until 1pm on December 24 and will reopen on December 27.
