Online support planned for bus pass holders in Swansea

Bus passengers can get help to apply for their new concessionary bus passes.

Swansea Council is setting up sessions each week to provide the public with support to carry out the new online process which was launched by Transport for Wales in September.

All existing passes expire on December 31.  Existing holders therefore need to renew their current passes for the new version which will also be scanned by electronic card readers when passengers present them on the bus.

Cath Swain, Swansea Council's Passenger Transport Team Leader said, "Many of our existing bus pass holders in Swansea have already used the online system to renew their pass. Latest figures show just over 65% of holders have renewed.

"We recognise also that some members of the public, especially older people, are not familiar with the online process or might just need some assistance to get the application completed.

"Many are getting support from family members to complete the renewal but for those that are unable to get help, we've organised some sessions each week to provide residents with support electronically.

"Residents can call to either the Civic Centre and make use of the digital equipment in the Contact Centre or at the Central Library to complete the process.  We will have a member of staff available to guide them through the process.

"It's quite quick and easy to do and we would urge all existing bus pass holders to renew well before December 31 to make sure that they have their new passes before 1 January."

Transport for Wales has confirmed that after December 31, older bus passes will not be recognised on the electronic systems on board local buses, which could mean that free travel will be denied.

From Monday 18 November applicants will be able to get support at the Contact Centre between 9am - 12 noon every Monday.  No appointments are necessary.

From Wednesday 20 November, applicants can get support with renewing applications between 1pm - 5pm every Wednesday at the Centre Library.  Again, no appointment is required.

Online applications can be completed at between now and December 31.
