Upgrade for popular primary school starts in summer holiday

Work will start during this school summer holiday on a partial refurbishment of a popular primary school in Swansea including the addition of a new classroom extension.

The investment at Seaview Primary in Mayhill will improve the learning environment for pupils and cut infant class sizes.

Swansea Council successfully bid for funding for the scheme from the Welsh Government.

It will see internal remodelling of all of the school's existing classrooms along with a new build extension classroom.

Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Education Improvement, Learning and Skills, Cllr Jennifer Raynor, said: "This is excellent news for pupils and staff at Seaview and I'm grateful to our colleagues in Welsh Government for their support.

"The work will improve and expand the learning environment at the school and continue to raise standards."

Local company TAD Construction Ltd has successfully tendered for the work and has been appointed as the main contractor.

It will work closely with the school's leadership team to keep any potential disruption to a minimum when pupils return to Seaview Primary after the holidays.

Cllr Raynor added: "Swansea Council and the Welsh Government have invested many millions in improving school buildings and facilities in recent years and thousands of children are benefiting from this investment.

"This will continue and during the next few years we have exciting plans to improve and upgrade many more schools in the city."
