Warm welcome for return of Proms in the Park as part of Swansea 50th c..

PROMS in the Park, one of the perennial highlights of the British cultural calendar, is heading back to Swansea later this year.

Proms in the Park

Swansea Council has been working with BBC Wales to bring the event to Singleton Park on the evening of Saturday September 14.

The concert will link up with the Royal Albert Hall on the Last Night of the Proms, along with other BBC Proms in the Park concerts in Hyde Park, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

And it'll be part of Swansea's own 50th anniversary celebrations of its status as a city.

Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for innovation, regeneration and tourism, said that Swansea Council was delighted to be partnering with the BBC once again to bring Proms in the Park back to Singleton Park

He said: "This will be the 13th time BBC Proms in the Park has been held in the city, which speaks volumes for Swansea's cultural heritage and ability to host major events of this size.

"With flags waving, footage on a big screen and the traditional fireworks display at the end of the evening, there is sure to be a terrific atmosphere once again for the 8,000 or so spectators we expect to be in attendance.

"As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Swansea being named a city, this event coupled with the amazing Biggest Weekend last year, the return of the Stereophonics this year and the Jess Glynne and Pete Tong and the Heritage Orchestra concerts also taking place in the park this summer, we really are proving we're Wales' city of culture."

Music lovers are invited to bring their picnics and deck chairs to celebrate the Last Night of the Proms in the magnificent Singleton Park. The evening will end with fireworks and the traditional Last Night medley of sing along numbers.

This year's Proms season marks the 150th birthday of founder-conductor Sir Henry Wood and continues to fulfil his mission to bring 'the best of classical music to the widest possible audience.'
