Making Mealtimes Easier

Eating proper meals regularly is important for health and wellbeing, especially in later life.

However sometimes it can seem a lot of effort to prepare a healthy, nutritious meal for yourself, especially if you are on your own.

Meal Delivery

The Food Shed is a social enterprise offering a meal delivery service operating 7 days a week throughout Swansea, Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, Neath and Port Talbot. Meals are delivered chilled in a suitable container, and staff can plate up and warm up the meal appropriately as part of the service.

Frozen Meal Delivery

It is possible to buy a week (or a fortnight)'s supply of nutritionally balanced frozen meals, delivered to your home, which you can then reheat in a microwave or conventional oven.

You choose the meals you would like from a brochure or from the delivery company's website. Two companies which operate in the local area are:

Lunch Clubs

Across the City and County of Swansea there are a number of lunch clubs for older people, usually meeting once a week.

These take place in community centres and halls, and usually offer some social activities as well as a meal. Ask at your local community centre.

Local Cafes,  Pubs and Takeaways

If there is a café or pub close to your home, they may be happy to deliver a regular hot meal to you at lunchtime. Why not ask?

Most areas also have local takeaways that will allow you to phone in your order and then deliver it.

Ready Meals

Most supermarkets now sell a range of complete meals for one, both fresh and frozen, that just need to be heated up in a microwave or conventional oven.

If getting to the shops, or carrying your shopping home, is a problem, see Getting your Shopping Done for some ideas.
