Swansea Council is aiming to ensure shoppers and traders in the city centre benefit during the busy Christmas period by offering free parking at its St David's Multi-Storey Car Park every Thursday from now until January 11.

The 'free after 3' offer is available to motorists who enter the car park after 3pm and are looking to take advantage of the Christmas late night shopping.

Mark Thomas, Cabinet Member for Environment Services, said: "The free parking offer is a great way of showing support to local businesses in the city centre.

"We all know the period over Christmas is one of the busiest times for local shops, especially in the city centre.

"I'm confident that the free parking incentive will attract more visitors to the city centre this Christmas."

Russell Greenslade, Chief Executive of Swansea Business Improvement District, said: "We met recently with Swansea Council who have kindly agreed to provide an exciting new city centre parking offer throughout the Christmas period.

"This great offer will help to attract shoppers who are keen to take advantage of the special late night Christmas opening times of many of our city centre businesses on Thursdays.

"We are always happy to collaborate with Swansea Council on initiatives which help to enhance our city centre offer and I would like to thank the Council for providing this new offer supporting our BID area businesses."

Christmas officially kicked off in Swansea recently with the annual parade which attracted thousands of visitors.

In addition to the parade, Waterfront Winterland is now in full swing with families descending on the Museum Park.

Cllr Thomas added: "The free parking at St David's is ideal for families visiting the ongoing attractions. It means they can keep all their money for the fairground rides and food stalls."
