Polar Express treat for Christmas Parade

Swansea's Bay Rider Land Train will be transformed into the Polar Express for this year's Christmas Parade.

The land train, which runs trips along the city promenade during the spring and summer, will be decorated a few days before the parade, which is taking place on Sunday November 19.

Organised by Swansea Council, it's one of many features planned for the parade that will take inspiration from Christmas and winter-themed movies.

Some of the other floats taking part at the event will celebrate films including Frozen, Snow White, Cinderella, and Jack and Beanstalk.

Seasonal, glow-in-the-dark hoverboarders will also perform at the parade, along with marching bands and a Mother Christmas dance group.

Santa will be on hand to turn on the city centre's Christmas lights, close to a real Christmas tree being put up at the Kingsway end of Princess Way.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Major Projects, said: "The returning Christmas Parade will generate a fantastic Christmas atmosphere in Swansea city centre, helping meet the aspirations of many thousands of local people and visitors to the city.

"Movies like Frozen and The Polar Express are among the world's most popular of recent years, so the inclusion of floats celebrating these films and others will add to everything else that's been arranged for a festive, fun, family-friendly event.

"Waterfront Winterland at Museum Park and the Christmas Market on Oxford Street are also returning on Friday November 17, so the parade forms part of a bumper festive weekend that will mark the countdown to Christmas in Swansea."

Giant reindeer, wrapped present and snowman themed inflatables will also feature at this year's Christmas Parade, which starts at about 5pm.

Part of the 'It's Christmas in Swansea' series of events and activities, the parade, due to finish in the area of the Grand Theatre, will travel along Wind Street, High Street, Orchard Street and Kingsway.
