Ospreys hand out prizes for great school attendance

Pupils from schools across Swansea have been recognised for their outstanding attendance records.

Ospreys stars Keelan Giles and Nicky Smith handed out prizes at a ceremony at the Guildhall hosted by Swansea Sound's Kev Johns.

Every youngster in Swansea who achieved a 98 per cent or better attendance record or had shown significant improvement in attendance compared to the same period in 2016 was entered into a prize draw.

Swansea has seen the third most improved attendance figures at comprehensive schools during the last five years out of all 22 Welsh local authorities.

When national figures for primary schools are published later this year they are also expected to show improvement.

Cllr Jennifer Raynor, Cabinet Member for Children, Education and Lifelong Learning, said: "Pupils can only achieve their full potential if they are regularly in school and I would like to congratulate all the prize winners along with their schools, parents or carers."
