A popular city centre road is set to be redesigned to help make it greener and more attractive for businesses and visitors.

Swansea Council has been working with consultants - Robert Bray Associates and Natural Resources Wales, to develop a masterplan for St Helen's Road.

The plans are in response to the community's calls for improvements to the popular route, which features a wide mix of food-related establishments and local retailers.

Early concept designs have now been developed and are set to be presented to local businesses, residents and community groups in the area.

To help showcase the initial designs, a special drop-in session has been organised by the Council and Urban Foundry and will take place on Saturday 23 November at the Kingsway-based YMCA.

The latest designs aim to complement the improvements previously completed along the Kingsway, which included work to widen pedestrian footways and increase green infrastructure, including the planting of more trees.

Representatives from the Council and Urban Foundry will be at the planned drop-in session and now want businesses to attend the special event to provide comments and feedback ahead of more detailed plans being developed.

Andrew Stevens, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: "Discussions with businesses in the community in and around St Helen's Road have been ongoing for some time and have culminated in the development of a concept design of how the road could look in the future.

"We now want to present these ideas to local people so they can continue providing feedback and have ongoing involvement in the redevelopment plans.

"St Helen's Road is an important and popular route within the city centre. Lots of people work there, visit there to shop and eat. Our aim is to transform the route so that it complements all the excellent regeneration work that is ongoing within the city centre."
