Buses back on Gower on Sundays starting this Easter

Buses to and from Gower are set to run on Easter Sunday and Monday as part of a new weekend service launched by Swansea Council.

Llanmadoc Hill, Gower

The extra bus service is a result of a successful funding bid by the Council  to run the (114 & 118) service for the next three years.

This year the service will be operated by New Adventure Travel. Tourism bosses have welcomed news that the Sunday buses will be running throughout the summer on Gower.

Stephen Crocker, Chair of Tourism Swansea Bay, said: "This is excellent news for Gower.

"We all know the region is hugely popular with visitors during the summer months and it's vital that we cater for visitors who rely on public transport to get about.

"Many of the local businesses in Gower need visitors throughout the weekend and not just a Saturday when public transport services are more frequent. So the guarantee of the Sunday service for the next three years is a welcome boost for the area."

Stuart Davies, Head of Highways and Transportation, said: "We realise not everyone has access to a car and so will want to use public transport. This will also help reduce car traffic and congestion in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

"Providing a bus service to Gower on Sundays throughout the summer is important if we want to help support our local economy and give tourism a boost.

"It allows visitors looking to walk sections of the coastal path to catch a bus to one point and then get back on at another so they do not need a car.

"Residents living in rural parts of Swansea can also feel a little cut-off if they do not drive and so the bus service will also make the lives of locals easier."

Buses will run from Swansea to Rhossili every hour from 0915 to 1715 with five journeys starting at Swansea Railway Station. Three buses per day will run to and from Llanrhidian, Llanmadoc & Llangennith.
The service will run every Sunday from 4 May to 1 October. In addition to this, the buses will run on 17 April (Easter Monday), 1 May (Bank Holiday Monday) and 28 August (Bank Holiday Monday).
