Park footpaths part of Council's improvement plan
Swansea Council has approved plans to invest a further £1.2m into the city's highway and footway infrastructure.
The latest report considered by the Council's Cabinet today (19 September) confirmed part of the funding (£200k) will be invested in footpaths in parks.
A nearly £1million investment will also go towards road resurfacing schemes which feature in the Council's five-year highways maintenance programme.
A further £60k will help ensure the city continues to improve accessibility for residents with the installation of drop kerbs in communities across Swansea.
Andrew Stevens, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: "In March, we approved a significant amount of our annual budget towards highway repairs for 2024/25.
"Roads earmarked for repairs during the next twelve months have been prioritised as part of our rolling five-year highway asset programme.
"The extra money we have now approved will take the investment on Highways infrastructure for this year to more than £8.1m and will ensure we can also deal with roads damaged by wet weather and also dedicate more money to creating drop-kerbs where necessary.
"The city is blessed with many parks and so we have also chosen to invest a substantial amount of funding towards footpaths in parks, ensuring they are fit for purpose and help improve residents experience when they visit a park."
Some of the overall budget for 2024/25 has already been put to good use with a number of key routes in the city benefitting from full resurfacing work. Roads include Cockett Road, Llwynmawr Road - Tycoch and a section of the A483 Penllergaer.
