Axolotls are a type of salamander from only two locations in Mexico. We're very lucky to have two here at Plantasia, come along and meet Peter and MJ!

Origin / Habitat: Lake Xochimilco and Lake Chalco near Mexico City

Size: 10 to 12 inches

Diet: Crustaceans and small brine shrimp

Did you know;

  • They never turn into their adult forms and have the amazing ability to regenerate limbs.
  • Living in underwater caves makes them difficult to find which means that nobody really knows how many are left in the wild.
