Swansea Council deals with aftermath of Storm Isha

Disruption in Swansea caused by Storm Isha is being tackled by Swansea Council.

High winds blowing across Swansea Bay have transformed a section of the city's main road in the bay - Oystermouth Road, into a sand covered highway.

Swansea Council is now in the process of planning a clear-up of the sand on the road along with the adjacent promenade.

The Council's parks team also worked through Sunday night and early Monday morning to deal with a number of small trees and branches which had blown down during the storm.

Andrew Stevens, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Environment, said: "Thankfully, the city has emerged from Storm Isha with only minor issues to deal with. The absence of heavy rain along with previous work carried out by the Council, to clear culverts and water courses, mean we did not suffer with any major flooding on our roads.

"Our tree services teams have worked throughout the night to deal with minor tree damage and branches that have blown down onto roads.

"We have seen sand blown from Swansea Bay onto the road along Oystermouth Road. Previous work on the beach to mitigate the amount of sand that gets blown onto the main road has meant there is less to deal with than in previous years. We will now look at clearing the sand from the prom and the road as soon as possible."
