Unit JK61CY025 - Pattern layout - Cutting and Marking - Level one (3 credits).
Unit JK61CY023 - Sewing Machine Skills -Level one (3 credits).
Requirements for enrolling on this course:
Either completion of the 'beginners' 30 week / 3 term course.
or
Previous knowledge of basic sewing skills and techniques, knowing your sewing machine and some sewing experience is necessary.
This course will cover:
- Understanding the structure of a fabric
- Understanding a commercial pattern
- Understanding the meaning of dressmaking pattern symbols
- Pattern adjustments
- Cutting out garment pieces
- Using methods of transferring pattern symbols to fabric
- Producing samples of machine stitching techniques
- Producing samples using attachments
- Producing samples showing alterations in tension
- Producing a plan to sew an item
- Using stitching techniques to assemble an item
- Review skills of an item
You will need:
Your own sewing kit, for example pins, sewing needles, assorted thread, tape measure, seam ripper, etc.
