More play areas upgraded in multi million pound investment

The Council is surging ahead with a programme of improvements and upgrades to dozens of play areas as part of a £2million investment.

 The latest areas to benefit include Dunvant Park where an all-weather multi use games area (MUGA) has been installed, providing further opportunities for children to take part in sports including football, basketball and netball.

 In Kingsbridge, the ageing play area on Loughor Road has been replaced with a wide range of play equipment, including climbing frames, swings and a slide.

Children in Penclawdd are also benefitting from a new play area at Llanyrnewydd and the latest completed upgrade is at Polly's Park in St Thomas.

 Robert Francis Davies, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said: "Children's play areas are a key part of our communities, enabling young children to have fun and play in a safe environment.

 "During the pandemic outdoor play areas became a haven for young children and their families to enjoy fresh air and exercise safely and Swansea Council was there to support communities."

 Upgrades have been agreed for a further five new upgrades at Mayhill, Morriston, Pennard, Cwmbwrla and Rheidol Flats in Mynyddbach.

 Andrew Stevens, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Business Improvement and Performance said: "The play area initiative is making great progress with 10 already officially opened and completed.

 "Every ward in Swansea will benefit from what we are doing and we are working with local ward members in each community to ensure the funding is directed towards those play areas that will benefit from this additional investment."
