Teams are shortlisted seven times in the APSE Service Awards 2022. Swansea is also shortlisted for the council of the year prize.

APSE is the Association for Public Service Excellence, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting excellence in the delivery of frontline services to local communities around the UK.

It is the second year in succession that Swansea has been nominated for Council of the Year and leader Rob Stewart said: "I'm delighted that our teams have been honoured in this way. Our staff deliver top class services to the people of Swansea and it's right that they're recognised at a national level."

The award winners - from local authorities across the UK - will be announced in mid-September when the APSE annual charity awards dinner takes place at Swansea Arena.

Swansea teams shortlisted for awards include those from the council's waste, parks and cleansing, housing and city centre management departments.

Awards they're shortlisted for include: workforce initiative; housing, regeneration or new build initiative; commercialisation and entrepreneurship initiative; housing, construction and building service team; public realm street cleansing and streetscene team; cemetery and crematorium team.

APSE chief executive Paul O'Brien said: "The APSE Service Awards are uniquely placed to recognise the enormous effort and dedication of our vital frontline services.

"We received an overwhelming number of submissions for the awards this year, with each one demonstrating a clear commitment to the goals of continuous improvement and the delivery of excellence in public services.

"On behalf of everyone at APSE I would like to say a massive thank you to all of our finalists - you are a credit to the communities you serve."

The APSE Awards are specific to frontline services provided by UK local authorities.

This year, the awards included 22 categories, covering the vast majority of local services.
