Grants are available towards a range of uses including purchasing additional supplies of good quality food and essential goods or operating expenses such as overhead costs, additional volunteer expenses or other additional costs incurred as a result of increased demand.

Community growing and cooking projects can also apply for funding if their main aim is to tackle food poverty, while organisations could use money to help towards membership of FareShare Cymru.

Charities and community groups can now apply for revenue funding by visiting www.swansea.gov.uk/householdsupportfund with the closing date for applications being Friday June 10.

Swansea Council has been awarded a £83,440 Household Support Grant from the Welsh Government for this financial year to fund the scheme.

Swansea Council Leader Rob Stewart said: "Households across Swansea are facing a cost of living crisis with the price of energy, fuel, food and other essentials rising at rates we have not experienced for a generation.

"We have many wonderful charities, volunteer groups and other organisations working to help those in greatest need in Swansea.

"I'm grateful to the Welsh Government for their help in providing funding to support these efforts."

Due to the anticipated number of applications it is suggested that applications from organisations are for up to £1,500.

Each application will be assessed on its merits but groups can discuss their bids in advance if they wish by emailing tacklingpoverty@swansea.gov.uk
