What is the difference between adopting a bench and donating a bench?

An existing bench can be adopted whilst a new bench is donated.

What happens if a bench is not available in the desired location?

If there is no availability in the desired location, then a member of our Parks team will discuss alternative locations.

What does the cost include?

The donate a bench price provided includes:

  • Supply and delivery of a new bench of your choice
  • Suitable base
  • Installation
  • Plaque with inscription of choice

The adopt a bench price provided includes:

  • A used bench
  • Plaque with inscription of choice.

How long will the bench remain in place?

The bench will remain in place for the life period of the bench only, after which time we will attempt to contact the adopter / donor to go through the options available. The council will not be responsible for replacing the bench where it has reached the end of its natural life due to normal wear and tear, or as a result of damage whether accidental or wilful.

Can I have my bench refurbished?

No maintenance or rework of any kind shall be undertaken (including any painting or varnishing) by the donor or their family. All requests for maintenance or rework should be made to Parks. If any maintenance or refurbishment should be required, then this will be at cost. Please call or message our friendly staff who can advise.

What happens if my contact details change after adopting or donating a bench?

It is the responsibility of the donor / adopter to keep Swansea Council informed of any change of contact details during the term of the donation / adoption. Please contact Parks to update any contact details.

Is the price subject to VAT?

The donation or adoption of a bench by a private individual is not subject to VAT. However, the donation or adoption of a bench by businesses or organisations is subject to VAT.

How long does the process take?

Once an enquiry is received via the online form it will be processed as soon as possible. A member of the Parks team will be in touch to discuss the location of the bench, take details for the plaque and to run through the process. Once all these details have been agreed the process normally takes approx. 30 weeks from cleared payment to installation, dependent on suppliers, workload and weather constraints.

How are the payments processed?

Once all details have been agreed an online payment link will be emailed to you. If you cannot use the online payments system, then telephone payments can be arranged with the Parks team.
