About Swansea SCWDP

Swansea SCWDP represents the social care sector within the area covered by the City and County of Swansea.

This includes social care services for adults and children amongst others. The partnership, which is led by Swansea Social Services, is made up of different key stakeholders from independent providers of social care services, the voluntary sector, or other organisations and agencies who contribute to the work of social care employers and staff.

The aim of Swansea's SCWDP is to promote the Welsh Government ethos of "One Sector, One Workforce." To help us do this, we receive a grant from the Assembly each year as a contribution towards the cost of meeting our broad aims and objectives. These are to

  • improve the quality and management of social services provision through a planned approach to training
  • increasing the take-up of training across the social care sector
  • increase the proportion of staff across the whole social care sector with the qualifications, skills and knowledge they need for the work they do;

Staff development and training, needs to be planned, resourced, delivered and evaluated effectively. It is each individual employer's responsibility to do this. As a Partnership we aim to support and supplement what employers already provide, by organising and running some free training courses for staff working for independent or voluntary sector employers in the City and County of Swansea area.
