Union Street junction to be improved

Work is due to start next week improving a Swansea city centre road junction.

Kingsway redevelopment

It will see new kerbs and surface laid at the top of Union Street where it meets The Kingsway.

The three-week job is part of Swansea Council's ongoing transformation of The Kingsway into a more attractive environment for people to live, work and visit.

Council leader Rob Stewart said: "The improvements at the top of Union Street will help that whole area become a people-friendly green artery for our transformed city centre.

"Union Street and its neighbouring roads are important for businesses, pedestrians and motorists so our contractors will aim to keep disruption to a minimum during the three weeks of this work."

Local businesses and residents have been informed that the work will see the Union Street/Kingsway junction closed during the work - and one-way Portland Street will become two-way.

Motorists heading for Portland Street and Park Street are advised not to travel via Cradock Street.

Union Street businesses and homes can still be accessed on foot.

Temporary traffic arrangements for July 23-August 12 include:

  • Union Street entrance closed to vehicles
  • Portland Street will be two-way for traffic instead of the usual one-way.
  • Access to the car parks behind M&S and in Park Street will be by turning left off The Kingsway into Portland Street.
  • Diversion signs will be in place.
