EYST New BME Sport

EYST Wales is an award-winning charitable organisation set up in 2005 by and for ethnic minority people in Wales. It aims to support BME people achieve their full potential and has a range of projects across Wales. In Swansea it leads the BME Sports Cymru project which is a national project to support BME individuals and organisations get into sport, and has worked closely with Swansea Sports Development Team and other stakeholders to achieve this.

HMT Sancta Maria Hospital is a not-for-profit private hospital based in Swansea. The hospital offers a wide range of treatments from orthopaedics, ophthalmology, cosmetics and more. This is a landmark year for Sancta Maria as it will open a brand new, state-of-the-art hospital in SA1 in the Autumn. The new hospital will enhance the patient experience with new diagnostic equipment, including an MRI scanner, purpose built consulting and ward rooms and on-site parking.

The hospital is proud to support the Swansea Sports Awards which will celebrate local achievements throughout 2019.  As an organisation that promotes healthy lifestyles and supports sports professionals and enthusiasts to avoid and overcome injuries, we were keen to be involved in the event. It provides one of the broadest ranges of sports academies in the country and has over 300 students representing the College on a regular basis. The Sports Academy programme includes a variety of sporting opportunities including both teams sports and individual disciplines. Students get the opportunity to develop within a supportive environment whilst continuing their academic and vocational pathway. The College has a bursary and mentoring programme for elite athletes consisting of financial and holistic elements.

Volunteer of the Year award sponsored by Park LivesOpens new window

The ParkLives initiative is led directly by Swansea Council's Sport and Health team. It was initially established from commitment by Coca-Cola Great Britain to invest in community-based projects.

ParkLives offers fun activities in parks, encouraging people to make new friends and enjoy the green spaces in their local community.  From yoga and Nordic walking to mountain boarding and circuits, there's a wide variety of ParkLives sessions to suit everyone, regardless of age or ability. The timetabled activities are usually one hour long and led by supportive and friendly trained session leaders, and volunteers from the local communities.

As a programme we highly value the contribution that volunteers make to the delivery of community sport and physical activity, therefore ParkLives is excited to sponsor the Volunteer of the Year Award. This year we will continue to work with volunteers to ensure that there are more opportunities available, to encourage more people to be more active in parks and open spaces across Swansea.

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David aims to transform education in Wales and by doing so transform the lives of the individuals and communities who are connected to us.

Plus the recent growth of the sports events market from triathlons to obstacles races and the enhancements in the low cost gym sector gives more opportunities for employment and future career development. Additionally, the new campus development in the SA1 area of Swansea has seen the creation of the Institute of Education which delivers high quality professional led teacher education courses. All our programmes are linked closely to industry providers where many programmes have a compulsory placement module which enables students to gain real life and credible work experience prior to graduation.
