Around 100 community groups, sports clubs and other organisations have received funding via Swansea Council for the Welsh Government's Summer of Fun programme.

Deputy Minister for Social Services, Julie Morgan, visited a number of projects this week in the city to speak to the young people benefitting.

These included a variety of fun community activities taking place at the Phoenix Centre in Townhill and free activities, play schemes and early years services at the Mountain View Centre in Mayhill.

The minister also visited a project run by Platfform in Morriston which offers one to one, group and activity support to young people struggling with their mental health and GoodVibes, an inclusive LGBTQ+ Youth Group supporting young people at the YMCA in the city centre.

The packed programme of Summer of Fun activities include sports, arts, crafts and environmental projects with a full list along with dates, times and how to sign-up available at https://www.swansea.gov.uk/sharedprosperitysurvey.

Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Community Support, Hayley Gwilliam, said: "This year Swansea has received in excess of £400,000 from the Welsh Government to support a huge range of activities with something that should appeal to all children and young people in the city.

"I would urge young people and their families to visit the website to see what is on offer and to take advantage of this programme during the school holidays."

Deputy Minister for Social Services, Julie Morgan, said: "It was a real pleasure to visit Swansea today to see for myself how Summer of Fun is benefiting the city's children and their families.

"Providing children and young people with opportunities to mix through the summer holiday can help their wellbeing and boost their emotional and physical health.

"This year, we will also be helping providers to offer food at their activities, targeting issues around holiday hunger and supporting families with the very real cost-of-living crisis."
