Revenues and benefits team set for relocation
Swansea Council's revenues and benefits team is preparing to move from their current base at the Civic Centre to the new Y Storfa community services hub in the city centre.
Located in the former BHS unit on Oxford Street, Y Storfa is being developed by the council as a modern, accessible hub bringing a range of key public services together under one roof.
Y Storfa will open later this year, with an opening date set to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
No disruption to the revenues and benefits service is anticipated. The service will continue to be available at the Civic Centre until Y Storfa is open.
Each year, the revenues and benefits team welcome around 15,000 in-person visits, supporting residents with services including housing benefits, council tax, council tax reductions, business rates, passport to leisure, social care income and finance, and free school meals.
Cllr Andrew Williams, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, said: "Our revenues and benefits team provides essential financial support and advice to thousands of residents every year.
"Moving to Y Storfa will mean we can offer these services in a more modern, central and accessible location.
"The team works closely with our Housing Options and Housing Support services, who are also relocating to Y Storfa. Having all these vital services under one roof will make it much easier for people to get the help they need — without having to travel between the Civic Centre and High Street."
Alongside revenues and benefits, Y Storfa will also house a range of other council and partner services, including Housing Options, Housing Support, Central Library, the West Glamorgan Archive Service, and the contact centre.
Citizens Advice, Careers Wales and the South Wales Miners Library will also be based there.
The council is continuing to work with regeneration specialists Urban Splash on proposals for the redevelopment of the Civic Centre site. They'll be announced and made available for feedback when they're finalised.
