Activities at the National Waterfront Museum will include circus skills and games, den building, face painting, walkabout characters, live music, arts and crafts as well as Welsh language led songs and rhymes.

One again this year there will also be a quiet hour for children and families that benefit from less noise and stimuli to take part in the play opportunities.

The event takes places on Wednesday August 2 and is being organised by Swansea Council and its play partners.

The celebration will run from 11am to 2pm with the quiet hour proceeding it at 10am.

Hayley Gwilliam, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Community Support, said: "We know that the summer holidays can be a fun yet expensive time for families which is why Swansea Council puts on hundreds of free and subsidised activities each year.

"We have celebrated and supported National Playday for many years and it's always an excellent and really popular day and one of the highlights of the programme.

"Play is how children make sense of the world around them - how they learn about themselves and what they are capable of.

"Significantly, a lack of play opportunities has been shown to have a massively detrimental impact in terms of development and social skills.

"With ever increasing pressures on children's opportunities to play - time, parental fears, traffic, lack of play space, among many others - it has never been more important to support every child's right to play."
