Church hall opens its doors as a Swansea Space
A church hall that has opened its doors under the Swansea Spaces initiative this winter has become a popular venue for community members on a Thursday.
Llangyfelach Church Hall has been running a Warm Hub between 10am and 2pm where people can go to socialise, take part in activities such as board games and enjoy a free hot drink and soup.
It is one of more than 80 venues on the Swansea Spaces directory of warm and welcoming places people can go to for free during the winter.
You can find the directory here: www.swansea.gov.uk/Swansea-Spaces
Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Supporting Communities, Hayley Gwilliam, recently dropped in at the church hall to speak to organisers and users.
She said: "The Swansea Spaces directory has exceeded our expectations both in terms of how many groups and organisations got involved, as well as how it has helped tackle isolation.
"Again one of the clear themes at the Llangyfelach Church Hall Warm Hub was how valued it is by those who have been using it as for some, it can be the only time they get out of the house and meet people.
"I'm proud that Swansea Council has been able to support these initiatives but I really do want to pay tribute to the volunteer groups like this who are doing such important work in our communities."
