The School's Out web pages are popular and point families in the direction of a range of activities that can be enjoyed at home.

The material ranges from gripping information about science and nature to tips on fitness and wellbeing from the council's sport and exercise referral teams as well as Sport Wales.

There's also information from the council's parks team on growing plants at home and links to virtual tours from around the world and activities from the council's cultural venues.

Cllr Andrew Stevens, a cabinet member for better communities, said: "It's vital that families keep as active as possible - both mentally and physically - at this time.

"The online resource we've put together is a one-stop shop for those looking to keep young minds and bodies active.

"It shows that council officers are here for Swansea at all times. It's a big help, especially to those stuck for ideas on how to keep the kids busy.

"It's all part of the support and advice we've added to the council's website to aid residents during the coronavirus pandemic."

The fun and educational resources showcased on the web page are designed to inspire parents. Some activities require a computer, tablet or smartphone connected to the internet. Others need just imagination.

The categories are:

  • Culture, arts and museums - While all the council's museums, theatres and cultural venues are temporarily closed to the public, there are still lots of things you can do online.
  • Science and nature - Whether you're stuck indoors or can run around in the garden there are still lots of things you can discover at home.
  • Reading and literacy - Books to read, stories to listen to, author interviews and reading activities for all ages - plus how to get eBooks and eMagazines from Swansea Libraries.
  • Fitness and wellbeing - Join your kids for a PE lesson from home.
  • History and geography - Travel back in time or explore the world with these online resources and be inspired to learn about Swansea's and your history or become an explorer.
  • Maths and computing - Have fun with numbers or become a coding wizard. You could use these resources and the time spent at home to be the next technology giant.
  • Welsh - Whether you're looking for activities in Welsh or looking to learn or improve your Welsh, now is the perfect time.
  • Activities for additional learning needs - There are lots of ideas suitable for everyone in the other activities, but sometimes you may need that extra bit of support.
  • Even more activities - Looking for something a bit different? Or want to try something new? There are so many other things to try.
