Improvements to two Swansea community leisure centres have been unveiled.

Since October 2018 Freedom Leisure has operated local centres on behalf of Swansea Council - and together they are improving leisure locally.

The Freedom team, council colleagues and companies involved in launching the new-look facilities have officially unveiled the refreshed centres at Penlan and Bishopston.

More will follow at locations such as Morriston, Penyrheol and Cefn Hengoed as part of the ongoing multi-million pound project around the city. The city centre LC is already winning applause for its new facilities.

Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council's cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: "We made a £5.1m capital improvements pledge to our leisure centre customers and this is proof that we're delivering on that.

"We welcome the work by Freedom Leisure on behalf of the council and people across Swansea; our new partnership is flourishing."

Jim Kelly, general manager of Penlan Leisure Centre, said: "Collaborating with the council has allowed us to improve our leisure centres and bring a buzz back into the community.

"Penlan is looking fantastic and it's becoming the community hub everyone has been looking for.

"Our site welcomes everyone, from families wanting to swim or enrol their children on swim lessons, to people who want to work out socially in a range of classes, to those who want to get their head down and train in our new gym and to those who simply want to catch up and have a Costa coffee.

"We now have it all and can be very proud of the facilities we offer; they're some of the best in South Wales!"

Emma Evans, general manager of Bishopston Sport Centre, said: "It's been great being involved in shaping these community-based sites.

"We thank our customers for their patience - and we hope they're as excited as we are by the changes.

"With more classes and new equipment all our customers can enjoy an amazing health and fitness experience."

There is lots to get excited about at these two centres.

Penlan has a new retro spin studio. Both have new studios, reception and changing areas and refurbished gyms with the latest Technogym equipment.

Fitness platform My Wellness, unique to Freedom in Swansea, is an interactive app - free to members - that can program an individual's fitness journey, record exercise and can track the results.

Pop to see the facilities for yourself. Visit Penlan or Bishopston and speak to a friendly receptionist or phone them: Penlan, 01792 588079; Bishopston, 01792 235040.
