Plan ahead, Swansea Bay fireworks display spectators urged

Thousands are expected to enjoy the free Swansea Council display on the Covid-safe wide open spaces of Swansea beach and the prom.

The council hopes that as many people as possible will check the arrangements, plan ahead and aim to arrive in good time for the start.

The event is due to take place from 6-8pm, with parking available at a number of locations including the Recreation Ground, Civic Centre and all the usual city centre car parks.

Food and drink stalls will be open from 6pm - in both the Civic Centre and Cenotaph areas.

Throughout the event, there'll be food and drink choices including gourmet burgers, a traditional roast carvery, hog roast, hot dogs, wood-fired pizza, fish and chips and sweet treats including cakes, sweets, crepes and doughnuts.

The fireworks are due to launch at 7pm. The display will be visible around the bay -weather permitting - with the best views available on the prom and beach between the Civic Centre and Brynmill Lane.

Council cabinet member Robert Francis-Davies said: "Our annual fireworks event is always really popular and we know that thousands plan to attend.

"There'll be road closures in place with lots of people trying to access car parks and vantage points. We ask everyone to be aware of this and to factor it into their travel plans so they arrive on time and don't miss the display.

"We also ask that people do all they can to keep their distance from others - Covid is still with us and, although events such as this are permitted, we want to do all we can to help curb the spread of the virus."

The event will require a temporary closure of part of Oystermouth Road to traffic in both ways. This will assist with spectator safety and will take place between the Civic Centre and Brynmill Lane from 5-9pm.

Spectators arriving after 5pm will still be able to access the car parks at the Civic Centre and Paxton Street, unless they are full. The Rec car park will be accessible via Brynmill Lane.

Traffic arrangements include a diversion to direct Oystermouth Road traffic through Uplands and Sketty Lane.

At the end of the event spectators are advised to allow extra time for travel as roads are expected to be busy. Given the large number of vehicles likely to be leaving the area at the same time, it is anticipated that traffic will be heavy.
