A series of lessons and workshops for members and officers has seen them take key actions as the council works to make Swansea net zero carbon by 2050. The council itself aims to be net zero by 2030.

Andrea Lewis, the council's joint deputy leader and cabinet member for climate change and service transformation, said: "The council is committed to do all it can to tackle the world's climate and nature emergency - and we want to bring the rest of Swansea along with us.

"Offering these courses to our staff and members is a small but important step. We plan to roll out climate training across the council."

The training offers an enhanced awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities and the ability to reduce emissions.

Learning pledges include:

Cllr Andrea Lewis I will focus more on shopping local and buying more seasonal food products, buying sustainable ethical food products and reducing our family food waste.

Cllr Louise Gibbard I'm committing to cycling to work - this will produce less carbon than my current journeys.

Alyson Davies My pledge is to become more self-sufficient by growing my own fruit and veg.

Sue Woodward My home's oil central heating has a high carbon footprint; in the future we'll change to a more environmentally friendly air source heat pump.

People interested in making their own contribution to tackling the climate and nature emergency can visit the Environment Centre Swansea.
