Childcare and Early Years Capital Grant Scheme 2024 / 2025 - Grant completion guidelines

Guidance to aid completion of your application.

  • Familiarise yourself with the grant's guidelines, priorities, and application form.
  • Put together a project plan, noting key themes, priorities, and application questions prior to completing the application form.
  • Consult Development Officer relevant to your associated national childcare organisation. Note: council offers are not Development Officers.
  • Be realistic with what you are committing to. Applications that cannot deliver on their proposal are likely to see requests for awards to be fully and / or partially returned.
  • Note any timeframes set by the grant. Grant funding often has to be spent in the same financial year it is awarded.
  • Be specific. Use short sentences and avoid acronyms and jargon. Try not to repeat yourself and answer the question.
  • Reflect the question in your answer. Re-read. Have you answered the question in its entirety.
  • Give details: Avoid generic information, ie.
    • Instead of 'we want to run play sessions throughout the Easter holidays' use 'we want to run three half day open access sessions (9.30-11.30) per week; Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during both weeks of the Easter holidays'.
    • Instead of 'we want to redecorate our kitchen' use 'we want to redecorate our 12 sqm kitchen, including full removal of all current units, decoration of walls, new non-slip flooring and fitting of new units and electrical goods'
  • Ensure your application meets the grant's priorities, and the application is focussed on these.
  • Provide evidence that your work is needed. Reference relevant information such as Childcare Sufficiency Assessment, Play Sufficiency Assessment, Local Development Plans and / or any stakeholder engagement etc.
  • Answer all the questions and include all relevant information. Incomplete applications will be rejected automatically.
  • Adhere to any minimum and / or maximum word counts.
  • Adhere to deadlines and last submission dates. Late applications will not be considered.
  • Provide concise costings. Ensure your budget is as specific as possible. Gain quotes, be aware of market hourly wages etc. Grant applications cannot be 'topped-up'. Ensure everything you will need to cover is included so the grant request is accurate.
  • Do not apply to more than one grant programme to fund the same requests.
