Award glory for historic Swansea venue

One of Swansea's biggest and popular cultural venues has been honoured by online global travel service Tripadvisor.

An historic venue with a diverse programme of events and activities, the Swansea Council-run Brangwyn Hall has been named a Travellers' Choice Winner, putting it in the top 10% of the site's attractions worldwide.

The imposing venue, opened more than 85 years ago, regularly hosts events, concerts, festivals, weddings, dinners and award ceremonies.

After reopening last week (note: Aug 24) with a successful Beauty and the Beast themed afternoon tea, it is now taking bookings for Sunday lunches - and staff continue to closely monitor government guidance about other uses as coronavirus restrictions are gradually eased.

Robert Francis-Davies, the council's cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: "The Tripadvisor award is a real achievement for the whole Brangwyn Hall team, including our catering partner JR Events and Catering and our management, front of house and technical teams.

"They have an enviable reputation for providing a warm welcome and top class facilities so it's no surprise to me that the venue is rated so highly by this web service.

"The Brangwyn Hall has been kept in prime condition in readiness for the future when it's safe to open more fully to the public.

"I'd thank the whole team for their continued efforts in ensuring that the venue continues to rate to highly amongst our customers."

Pre-lockdown reviews on Tripadvisor included:

  • "Fantastic venue for this show (G4 Christmas), brilliant acoustics. Staff at the Brangwyn are welcoming, friendly and helpful to ensure a great experience." Teresa A
  • "Visited here with friends to see the concert a Country night at Nashville. Large flat level floor area, very good acoustics. We were in row three which was great. Bar area and ample parking around the hall after 6pm and free. Yummy Garden 5 mins walk is a great place to eat beforehand." Richard
  • "Attended a tour here a few days ago which went into the history of the building and the murals. A fascinating insight into the building with a very knowledgeable guide who was witty and provided much entertainment throughout." Toydog16r

Thousands of residents and visitors attend a range of events at the Brangwyn Hall every year. As well as the main hall, the venue has a range of rooms of all sizes and types to cater for almost any event. It's one of the most flexible cultural and entertainment spaces in Swansea.
