Packed programme to celebrate Adult Learners Week
A packed programme of free taster sessions will be taking place at locations across Swansea to inspire people to gain new skills as part of Adult Learners Week.
Between Monday September 19 and Friday September 23 the team from Swansea Council's Lifelong Learning Service will be at the Market Garden area of Swansea Indoor Market.
They will be providing people with the chance to try their hand at watercolour painting, digital photography, calligraphy, needlecraft and felting, while there will also be a cookery demonstration.
Also on that Friday starting at 10.30am at Gorseinon Library there will be a preview for a brand new creative writing course.
The Lifelong Learning team will be joining a family fun day from 11am to 3pm at Penlan Playing Fields on Saturday September 24 offering a range of activities for both adults and children.
Swansea's Adult Learners' Week celebrations culminate in a fantastic live event between 11am and 4pm on Sunday September 25 in Castle Square.
This will feature lots of free performances and tasters including choirs, dancing, saxophone, arts & crafts, floristry, traditional woodworking, jewellery making plus children's activities.
An impressive programme of Lifelong Learning classes resumes at the end of September with enrolment from mid-September.
The full huge range of courses can be found at www.swansea.gov.uk/lifelonglearning
All digital literacy classes that help people get online or improve their IT skills remain free of charge as do family learning classes which help people support their child in school.
Essential skills classes ,which are tailored to each individual's needs are also free. These classes are invaluable for those who need help with maths and English up to level two and skills learnt in these classes can earn level 2 qualifications to help people access further education and training.
Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, Alyson Pugh, said: "Adult Learners' Week is the largest adult learning campaign in Wales.
"It aims to inspire and encourage thousands of adults each year to continue learning through a wide variety of forms, raising awareness of the value of adult learning and how learning can positively change lives.
"As always there's an exciting and varied programme here in Swansea and the finale in Castle Square will be a great free fun day out for all the family.
"Our Lifelong Service has also put together an excellent range of courses for the autumn and I'd encourage people to take a look as I'm sure they'll find something of interest to them.
"New classes this year include dry & wet felting, traditional green woodworking skills and creative writing.
Fees for our mainstream classes including cookery, digital photography, calligraphy, drawing and painting, flower arranging, guitar playing, yoga and many more have been kept to an absolute minimum with a charge of £10 per ten week course - equivalent to just £1 per week."
