Swansea Welsh in Education Strategic Plan 2014-17 (Monitoring Report 2015)

Swansea's Welsh in Education Strategic Plan 2014-17 was approved by Welsh Government in May 2014. It was one of only three such plans across Wales that did not require amendment.

In accordance with the regulations, Swansea has now produced a second monitoring report for 2015 which was submitted by 20 December 2015. This final version was approved by Welsh Government at the end of March 2016:  PDF Document Welsh in Education monitoring report 2014-2017 (final 2015) (PDF, 355KB)Opens new window.

Summary of progress

All actions are progressing well and performance is positive in both first language and second language.

High performance has been maintained in Welsh-medium secondary schools. The take-up of Welsh second language GCSE full course has improved and further increases are anticipated. The percentage of pupils who did not sit an exam in Welsh second language at age 16 has also continued to reduce.

Issues identified in the monitoring report will be the focus of investigation by the Welsh-medium schools' link advisers and the Welsh in education officer team. This will be co-ordinated  through PACA, the partnership that guides Welsh in Education in Swansea.

Pre-school survey

Welsh Government regulations require local authorities to survey the demand for Welsh-medium education at least every three years.
