Children and young people's rights

When we create new policies or amend policies we make sure that we have looked at the impact on children and young people's rights.

The council is committed to making sure that our policies and functions have a positive effect on the children and young people in Swansea. We have embedded the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into the way we set our policies. We have produced a Children and young people's rights scheme which details how we will do this.

The UNCRC has 42 articles which set out how children should be treated.

We asked pupils at Pentrehafod Secondary School about their rights at school. You can see what they said on their video below.

Everyone is responsible for protecting children from neglect and working in a way that promotes and supports their best interests. By using the UNCRC to guide us we hope to make sure this happens in everything that the council does.
