Smoking Ban WalesSmoking in enclosed public places in Wales is banned under smoke-free legislation which came into force on 2nd April 2007.The aim of the smoking law is to protect workers and the general public from the harmful effects of second-hand smoke. The law creates three specific offences:
Similar legislation also covers Scotland, England and Northern Ireland. There are very few exemptions to the smoking ban. The law affects most public premises, including restaurants, pubs, bars, shops, cinemas, shopping centres, leisure centres, other enclosed workplaces and public transport. The next No Smoking Day will take place on Wednesday 14th March 2012. You don't have to wait until then though to stop smoking. In fact the sooner you stop, the more benefits you will get.

Cigarette ends, matches and boxes are found on 86% of streets in Wales, with most of this litter being cigarette ends.
