Swansea Metro

City and County of Swansea, in partnership with First Group, is developing the Swansea Metro scheme.

Swansea Metro is a £14m package aimed at improving the public transport network in Swansea. The infrastructure works commenced in Summer 2006 and are programmed to be complete by late Spring 2009 in readiness for the operation of the service from this date.

The project is a partnership between the City and County of Swansea and First Cymru. .The infrastructure works are being funded through the Welsh Assembly's Government Transport Grant. The purchase and maintenance of the vehicles proposed to operate the service is being funded by First Cymru and will operate as a commercial service with no subsidy.

This Transport Grant funding has enabled the project team to implement some of the many proposed measures.

The infrastructure being installed along the route is not exclusive to Metro and is available for use by all public transport.
