Privacy & Cookies

This privacy covers the use of personally identifiable information that the City and County of Swansea Council collects when you visit www.swansea.gov.uk.

When someone visits www.swansea.gov.uk we collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. We collect this information in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website. We will not associate any data gathered from this site with any personally identifying information from any source. If we do want to collect personally identifiable information through our website, we will be up front about this. We will make it clear when we collect personal information and will explain what we intend to do with it.

Cookies
When we provide services, we want to make them easy, useful and reliable. Where services are delivered on the internet, this sometimes involves placing small amounts of information on your device, for example, computer or mobile phone. These include small files known as cookies. They cannot be used to identify you personally.

These pieces of information are used to improve services for you through, for example:

  • enabling a service to recognise your device so you don't have to give the same information several times during one task
  • recognising that you may already have given a username and password so you don't need to do it for every web page requested
  • measuring how many people are using services, so they can be made easier to use and there's enough capacity to ensure they are fast

You can manage these small files yourself through the following information on the Directgov website at www.direct.gov.uk/managingcookies

If you'd like to find more information about cookies, including how to see what cookies have been set and how to manage and delete them, then visit www.allaboutcookies.org.

Our use of cookies
The cookies used on this website have been categorised based on the categories found in the ICC UK Cookie guide (www.international-chamber.co.uk). A list of all the cookies used on this website by category is set out below.

Category 1: strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential in order to enable you to move around the website and use its features, such as accessing secure areas of the website. Without these cookies services you have asked for, like e-commerce, cannot be provided.

By using our website, you agree that we can place these types of cookies on your device.

Category 2: performance cookies
These cookies collect information about how visitors use a website, for instance which pages visitors go to most often, and if they get error messages from web pages. These cookies don't collect information that identifies a visitor. All information these cookies collect is aggregated and therefore anonymous. It is only used to improve how a website works.

By using our website, you agree that we can place these types of cookies on your device.

Category 3: functionality cookies
These cookies allow the website to remember choices you make (such as your user name, language or the region you are in) and provide enhanced, more personal features. For instance, a website may be able to provide you with local weather reports or traffic news by storing in a cookie the region in which you are currently located. These cookies can also be used to remember changes you have made to text size, fonts and other parts of web pages that you can customise. They may also be used to provide services you have asked for such as watching a video or commenting on a blog. The information these cookies collect may be anonymised and they cannot track your browsing activity on other websites.

By using our website, you agree that we can place these types of cookies on your device.

We use the following cookies on our website:

__utmz, __utmc, __utmb, __utma

Set by Google Analytics, these cookies are used to collect information about how visitors use our site. We use the information to compile reports and to help us improve the site. The cookies collect information in an anonymous form, including the number of visitors to the site, where visitors have come to the site from and the pages they visited.

socitm_include_me9, socitm_exclude_me9

Set by SOCITM, one indicates that a customer has accepted the survey and is either in the process of completing it or has completed it. The customer will not be asked to participate in this version of the survey again.

The other indicates that a customer has rejected the survey and will not be invited to participate in this version of the survey again until the cookie expires. This cookie is also placed when the system processes the code to invite a customer to participate but detects the socitm_include_me[x] cookie while doing so and does not present the survey again as a result.

To support our website, we sometimes embed photos and video content from websites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr. As a result, when you visit a page with content embedded from, for example, Facebook or Twitter you may be presented with cookies from these websites. Please note: If you choose not to disable cookies in your web browser you are agreeing to us using them on our website.
