The Tenancy Support Unit (TSU)

The TSU provide housing related support and advice to people in order to prevent homelessness and maintain independence. The service is free and available to anyone over the age of 16 who lives within the City & County of Swansea including home owners, housing association tenants, council tenants and those who rent from the private sector.

What sort of help and support do they provide?

Support is provided on a whole range of issues such as:

  • Budgeting and money management
  • Debt management
  • Claiming welfare benefits
  • Rent arrears and evictions
  • Setting up home, resettlement support
  • Engaging in work, education
  • Home safety
  • Daily living skills
  • Engaging with health services
  • Addressing substance misuse
  • Mental health
  • Domestic abuse
  • Liasing with others
  • Dealing with correspondence

How do I refer?

You can either refer yourself or be referred to by another agency or professional.  All you need to do is give us a ring on 01792 774320 or 774360.
Once we receive a referral and assess your circumstances you will be placed on a waiting list for support.

Central referral route

The TSU is a central referral route for a range of tenancy support services in Swansea.  They have an in house support team and also work in partnership with a number of different organisations such as:

  • Action for children
  • British Red Cross
  • Caerlas
  • Cyrenians
  • Gofal
  • Gwalia Care and Support
  • Hafan Cymru
  • SANDS Cymru

Family Intervention Partnership Project (FIP)

The TSU also provides an intensive support service to families at risk of homelessness or subject to enforcement action due to their anti social behaviour (ASB).

A dedicated FIP Key Worker delivers a tailored and holistic support service to all members of the family by working persistently and intensively with them to change their lives for the better and for the long term, by using a twin track approach that both supports the family and challenges poor behaviour.
