Show the Swans some love on Valentine's Day
SWANS centenary bunting will be on show in the city centre later this week as excitement builds ahead of the club's historic Wembley appearance.
Black and white bunting is going up at Oxford Street and Castle Square on Valentine's Day (Thursday February 14) to coincide with an event called Love in the City.
Swansea Council has arranged for the bunting to stay up until the Swans take on Bradford City in the Capital One Cup Final at Wembley on Sunday February 24.
Love in the City will include football-related games. Cardboard cut-outs of Swans players with missing heads next to manager Michael Laudrup will also be available for people to poke their faces through and get photos with the great Dane.
The Wave will be on hand with an outdoor broadcast from 10am on Oxford Street. Visitors will have the chance to win a pair of tickets for the Wembley final.
Romantic horse and cart rides will also be making trips along Oxford Street all day.
Cllr Nick Bradley, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: "I'm running out of superlatives for the Swans. Not only have they just about secured lucrative Premier League status again for next season, but they've also beaten the likes of mighty Chelsea to reach the final of a major domestic competition. Swans-related bunting in the city centre will help heighten the sense of occasion we're all feeling as excitement builds towards the crunch match at Wembley.
"The combination of the football-related fun and many other events forming part of Love in the City will attract even more shoppers into the city centre. We made a commitment to city centre traders that we'll do all we can to help them through these tricky economic times and events of this nature should boost business."
Other fun forming part of Love in the City will include free, heart-shaped Welsh cakes courtesy of Swansea Market, balloon-modelling and free balloons for children. There'll also be a flight simulator, traditional fun-fair rides, face-painting and a live performance at 12.30pm from Revue Dance Studio.
