New bus station to exhibit works of art
DOZENS of schoolchildren in Swansea will be visiting the city's main bus station next week to soak up the excitement of a new art exhibition that will be enjoyed by thousands of passengers every day.
Locws International's Art Across The City event starts on October 7 and runs until the end of the month.
Swansea City Bus Station has been selected as a venue for one of the art installations.
Pupils from Terrace Road Primary School and YGG Gellionnen will join artist S Mark Gubb at the newly developed public transport hub to view his piece called Ambition is Critical.
During the visit the children will get to sketch, draw and photograph the exhibit. And then they'll take the work back to the classroom and work with Mr Grubb to create artwork of their own.
Swansea Council's Education Department has worked closely with Locws International for the past seven years, helping to bring contemporary art to the schoolchildren of Swansea.
Richard Stafford, Swansea City Bus Station Manager, said: "Swansea's city bus station is a work of art in itself, so it's great that it is a venue for the latest Locws International art exhibition.
"I'm sure some bus passengers will be find the piece of art interesting."
Locws International is an artist-led organisation that works with UK-based and international artists to create temporary visual arts projects for public and accessible spaces across the city of Swansea.
The Art Across The City Swansea exhibition will take place from October 7 to October 30. For more information visit www.locwsinternational.com
