Traffic

The Traffic Group deals with a wide variety of subjects affecting the daily lives of all travellers in the City & County of Swansea.

A key influence is the Government's target for road traffic casualty reduction, e.g. to reduce by the year 2010 the numbers of those killed or seriously injured on our roads by 40%

Traffic Management, trying to make the best use of our roads. This may mean introducing

  •  waiting restrictions (yellow lines),
  •  lengths of road to benefit certain users (bus lanes, cycle lanes),
  • parking controls (residents parking, limited waiting),
  • one way streets. Residents complain about the inappropriate use of their street by traffic e.g. too many vehicles,
  •  travelling too fast, too many accidents.

When drivers get to their destination they need to leave their cars. In the City Centre the council controls almost 7,000 parking spaces, in surface and multi-storey car parks.

All these facilities are charged for and the surplus is used to maintain and enhance the car parks e.g. to provide disabled persons parking facilities, wider bays, accessible ticket machines, and ramped accesses. Car parks are also provided in district shopping centres and at a number of the local beaches.
