Get patriotic with Welsh food and drink

A FESTIVAL of Welsh food and drink is being held in restaurants and market stalls across Swansea.

Venues across city will be hosting a week of promotions and free tasters to promote the St David's Week festival and mark our national day.

This Saturday and on March 1 from 10am to 4pm a professional photographer will be on hand at Swansea Market to take free photographs of little ones dressed in traditional Welsh costume.

Lisa Wells, Swansea City Centre Manager, said: "We have supported St David's Week for the last two years but this year is special for us because Swansea Market will celebrate being 50 years old in May. So to mark the birthday year and in celebration of St. David's Week we have worked closely with our market traders to offer shoppers a fantastic range of activities and special offers which promote the market's long-established heritage.

"We're also giving people the opportunity of winning a traditional Welsh hamper jam-packed with market goodies simply by visiting the www.saintdavidsday.com website."

Colourful bunting is also being put in place at Swansea Market on St David's Day and a Get Welsh Food Festival is being held at Castle Square this Saturday (February 26).

Lisa said: "This event showcases the very best of what Wales has to offer with traditional Welsh traders selling their wares and there'll be plenty to keep children entertained while parents peruse the food stalls.

"The festival has become an established feature in the city centre events calendar and one which shoppers and visitors look forward to every year. The different organisations have come together brilliantly to organise the event and I hope people will come and support them on Saturday."

Another event forming part of St David's Week is the chance to explore Singleton Park on March 1 from 2pm to 4pm. A free guided tour of the park starts from Ty'r Blodau and will make its way through the beauty spot.

St David's Week has been kindly supported by B&Q Morfa and Real Radio.
