Sustainable Development![]() Development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Our Common Future (The Bruntland Report) 1987.The above definition is generally accepted as the most widely used definition for Sustainable Development and is the standard definition used by the British Government. Here in the Sustainable Development Unit we believe that Sustainable Development (SD) is about striking a balance between all our activities as members of a local and global community. In other words, while we have to develop economically to provide for our social needs both now and in the future, we also have to accept that the environment we live in cannot be taken for granted. The following pages will look at how SD contributes to a happy, healthy and prosperous Swansea. A Swansea we can all be proud off. Whether you are a resident, local business owner, a prospective investor or visitor in Swansea this site will help you to discover how SD plays an important part in the well-being of Swansea. This section is regularly updated with information on current publications, consultations, events and activities.
This section provides and overview of the work carried out by the Sustainable Development Unit.
