Administrative staff either in the Pollution Control team or Departmental Call Centre will take the initial call.  You will be required to provide your name, address and contact number.  You will also need to provide details of the type, frequency and duration of the problem and the address where the complaint originates.  In the case of a complaint about water quality in a swimming pool the officer will need to know the date and time of the incident, the name of the pool and the symptoms experienced.

Anonymous complaints will not normally be investigated.

Swimming pool water quality

For all non-urgent requests the investigating officer will contact the complainant for further information, within 5 working days.  If requests relate to possible contamination of the pool water then an officer will contact the caller within 24 hours.

After receiving all appropriate details an officer from the Pollution Control Team will take water samples from the pool, as well as carrying out an investigation into the operation and management of the pool.  Whenever possible, testing is carried out on a Monday, Tuesday or \Wednesday (except Public Holidays) to enable the laboratories sufficient time to carry out the appropriate tests.  All sampling is carried out by trained officers using approved methods.  All samples are sent to suitably accredited agencies to ensure accurate testing procedures.  Results are normally available within 14 days.  The investigating officer will contact you as soon as the results become available.  If any further action is needed, either by you or the officer it will be discussed at this time.

For all other complaints

An investigating officer will contact the complainant for further information, where necessary within 5 working days.

You can use our Enquiries & Complaints Form to make an online complaint.
